“COMPARING ATTRIBUTES”

Ketika membandingkan atribut dari dua hal, kami menggunakan satu set standar konstruksi

WHEN ATTRIBUTES ARE EQUAL

Membandingkan atribut yang sama sederhana. Untuk membandingkan atribut dari dua hal yang sama, kita menggunakan pola.

As + adjective describing the attribute + as

Examples:

·         Tom is as tall as his brother

·         I am as hungry as you are

·         Sally is as nice as Jane

WHEN ATTRIBUTES ARE NOT EQUAL

Ketika dua atribut tidak sama, ada tiga konstruksi dengan makna yang setara.

Baik menggunakan pola:

Not as + adjective describing the attribute + as

Atau menggunakan pola:

Less + adjective describing the attribute + then : this constructions is more frequent with some adjectives than with others.

Atau menggunakan pola:

Comparative adjective + than : this constructions may require changing the order of the phrase or using the opposing adjectives.

Examples:

·         Mont Blanc is not as high as Mount Everest

·         Mont Blanc is less high than Mount Everest

·         Mont Blanc is lower than Mount Everest

·         Mount Everest is higher than Monc Blanc

·         Norway is less sunny as  Thailand

·         Norway is less sunny than Thailand

·         Thailand is sunnier than Norway

·         Norway is cloudier than Thailand
